Debt Recovery Fees
Our debt recovery team is headed by a Director/ Solicitor, Tazeen Khaliq, with over 30 years’ experience in civil litigation. Tazeen has a high success rate and her speed, efficiency, attention to detail and resolute approach to debt recovery is second to none. Tazeen is assisted by Jamie Byrne, a solicitor, who has 4 years’ experience in debt actions having previously advised at the Citizens’ Advice Bureau and bringing with him a wealth of knowledge. They are supported by a trainee solicitor, Emily Hammer. The hourly rates of our debt recovery team are as follows:

1. Tazeen Khaliq (Qualified October 1992) - £300 plus VAT per hour;
2. Jamie Byrne (Qualified May 2020) - £210 plus VAT per hour;
3. Emily Hammer (Qualified November 2023) - £190 plus VAT per hour.
Our Fees
These costs apply where your claim is in relation to an unpaid invoice which is not disputed and enforcement action is not needed. If the other party disputes your claim at any point, we will discuss any further work required and provide you with revised advice about costs if necessary, which could be on a fixed fee (e.g. if a one off letter is required), or an hourly rate if more extensive work is needed.

Anyone wishing to proceed with a claim should note that:

VAT will be charged at the standard rate applied by the government (20%). The VAT element of our fee cannot be reclaimed from your debtor.

Interest and compensation may take the debt into a higher banding, with a higher cost.

The costs quoted above are not for matters where enforcement action, such as the bailiff, is needed to collect your debt.

Disbursements may be incurred. Disbursements are costs which are payable by us to third parties on your behalf. Expected disbursements for debt recovery actions are Court fees, barrister’s fees and expert’s fees (if applicable). VAT may be payable to barristers and experts .
Our fee includes:

Taking your instructions and reviewing documentation

Undertaking appropriate searches

Sending a letter before action

Receiving payment and sending on to you, or if the debt is not paid, drafting and issuing claim

Where no Acknowledgment of Service or Defence is received, applying to the court to enter Judgment in default

When Judgment in default in received, write to the other side to request payment

If payment is not received in accordance with the judgment, providing you with advice on next steps and likely costs
Matters usually take 3 to 9 months from receipt of instructions from you to receipt of payment from the other side, depending on whether or not it is necessary to issue a claim. This is on the basis that the other side pays promptly on receipt of Judgment in default. If enforcement action is needed, the matter will take longer to resolve.
