Good Divorce Week

Updated: Jan 27, 2023

Good Divorce Week 2022 (28 Nov - 2 Dec) will highlight the crisis in the family courts and raise awareness of all the different ways families can resolve their disputes away from Court - where it is safe and appropriate to do so - and how members guide families through that process.

Overstretched family courts are facing huge backlogs, both in terms of dealing with listings and administrative tasks. Despite the best efforts of court staff, families are frequently left waiting long periods of time to sort out finances and children arrangements.

We know that Resolution members work every day to help families resolve disputes – an ethos that is set out in our Code of Practice – but if the government funded early legal advice, more cases could be resolved without having to go to court (where it is safe and appropriate to do so). It would ensure that those cases that need to be resolved by Court can be dealt with in a timely manner.

We hope you’ll get involved in the week of activity where we’ll be engaging with MPs, policymakers and the public to raise awareness about the crisis in the family courts. Here are some ideas about how you can get involved in this year’s awareness week.
